Allan Bunting has been named as the Assistant Coach to assist Sean Horan with the selection and coaching of the New Zealand Women’s Sevens Rugby Team.
Allan’s rugby background is he attended Rotorua Boys’ High School ,played NPC rugby for Bay of Plenty for 8 seasons and in Japan for 3 years. In Sevens, he played for Bay of Plenty and represented New Zealand from 2001 to 2004.
Allan has played a leading role in the GO 4 GOLD TALENT CAMPS held nationally over the past 3 months, attending 10 of these so has a good overview of the quality of women playing or planning to play sevens..
There has been set up Women’s Academies in 14 provinces through the GO 4 GOLD programme which will lead to Southern ,Central and Northern Sevens Tournaments being held in August (with the teams coming from the provincial academies ) after which the New Zealand Seven’s Team will be selected. Also planned is the Women’s National Provincial Sevens Championships in February 2013 , in Wellington to coincide with the Men’s IRB Sevens World Series Tournament, with the Quarter Finals, Semi Finals and the Final being played at Westpac Stadium in amongst the Men’s games.
Allan is presently working for NZRU in Auckland helping develop the playing skills of the young players identified through the GO 4 GOLD TALENTCAMPS and will play a key role at the NZRU Training Camps for the top 50 Sevens Players (the first of which is being held this weekend involving 28 players ) which will lead to the 12 players to represent New Zealand in Women’s Sevens being selected.
